Waterjustice.org was born at the fourth World Social Forum (Mumbai, January 2004). Inspired by seminars on alternatives to water privatisation and how to finance public water, groups from around the world committed to intensify their co-operation on these key issues. One of the decisions was to develop waterjustice.org into a virtual resource centre and meeting place for exchanging experiences, debate and strategise. Water campaigners from Corporate Europe Observatory (CEO), the Council of Canadians and the Transnational Institute worked with a team of students from the Vancouver Design School to build this site.

Waterjustice.org is an open space to connect people from around the world dedicated to effective, democratic and equitable water solutions, including community activists, NGO campaigners, academic researchers, trade unionists and water utility managers. The success of the website will depend primarily on the active participation of these diverse groups. The site has a content management system which allows everyone to upload their contributions (from articles, report and case studies to calls for action and campaign news) and a discussion forum for sharing opinions on water justice issues. We warmly invite you to get involved!

Apart from the resource centre and public discussion forum, this website also has a working group area, which is accessible for those who are actively involved in the water justice project (please see Participate for how to get involved.). This virtual work space is used for cooperation on joint publications, collective research projects and other concrete activities for strengthening democratic and equitable water solutions.
